Description

What is the MYP? The IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) is a programme of study designed to meet the educational requirements of students aged between 11 and 16 years. It is a curricular framework that allows ZIS to follow a curriculum appropriate to our students whilst meeting the subject specific requirements of the IB. The MYP allows us to teach a broad and balanced choice of subjects over the five years of the programme. Courses are organised into eight subject groups and are planned with the students next steps into the IB DP in mind.
  • Language & Literature – English and Chinese
  • Language Acquisition – Chinese and English
  • Humanities
  • Sciences
  • Mathematics
  • Arts- visual arts and music
  • Physical & Health Education
  • Design Technology
What makes the MYP unique?
  • The programme encourages the use of a variety of teaching and learning methods.
  • The central concept is the development of the whole person, affective, cognitive, creative and physical.
  • Each subject includes skills, attitudes and knowledge in addition to the understanding of concepts; to develop students understanding of ideas as well as knowledge to be able to apply them in any context.
The key concepts provide the MYP with its unique core. Subjects are taught through these contexts to allow teaching and learning to focus on attitudes, values and skills. The personal project in Year 11
I really like the fact that MYP is interactive and you are not in a classroom listening to a lecture. There are different criteria and MYP accepts different learning styles. James Y8
The personal project is an extended personal piece of work of their choice. It holds a very important place in the programme in that it provides a culminating assessment that demonstrates the skills they have learnt through the MYP. The process of completing the personal project is led by the student, with supervision from a teacher. Students complete this during the final year of MYP-year 11 at ZIS and are able to demonstrate their achievement through an exhibition in term 2.
