The MYP at ZIS is designed for Grade 6 to Grade 10 students. It provides a framework of learning that encourages students to become creative, critical and reflective thinkers.
The MYP at ZIS builds upon the knowledge, skills and attitudes developed in PYP to prepare students to meet the academic challenges of the IB Diploma Programme (DP) or any other senior high school system.
The MYP is designed to:
Language and Literature

MYP Language Pathways help students develop strong communication skills and a deep appreciation for languages and cultures. The school offers two main pathways: Language and Literature and Language Acquisition.
Language and Literature
This pathway focuses on students’ main language—English or Mandarin. It helps them strengthen reading, writing, speaking, and analytical skills through studying a variety of texts and media. Students learn to express ideas clearly and think critically about how language shapes meaning.
Bilingual Pathway
Some students choose to take two Language and Literature courses, one in English and one in Mandarin, allowing them to follow a bilingual pathway that strengthens both languages equally.
Language Acquisition
Students have the opportunity to learn an additional language through the Mandarin or English curriculum, depending on their primary language. This pathway encourages curiosity, intercultural understanding, and effective communication in a new language.
Beyond the Classroom
The ZIS After-School Language Programme extends opportunities with extra courses in Korean, Japanese, Spanish, French, and German. Together, these experiences prepare students to become confident, multilingual global citizens who can connect across cultures and communities.
Internal Assessment
In the MYP, all assessments before the final Grade 10 eAssessments are internal. Teachers design, guide, and grade class tasks like projects, essays, and labs.
Each subject has specific learning objectives linked to assessment criteria. For each criterion, students receive a numerical score. These are totaled and converted into a final 1-7 semester grade, ensuring fair and consistent evaluation.
Final Year Assessments
In their final year, students complete an independently designed Personal Project, which is externally validated by the IB.
MYP eAssessments include:
Subject groups use a mix of these methods. All Personal Projects and ePortfolios are checked by IB examiners to confirm teacher grading, and on-screen exams are externally marked.
MYP Reporting
ZIS has two major reporting sessions each year in the MYP programme (Semester One and Semester Two). In addition, interim reports are sent in the middle of each semester.
Reports are instruments to indicate growth towards academic and personal excellence:
Formal reports allow parents and teachers to monitor the progress of every student. They also indicate each student’s achievement and the level that the student managed in each subject objective and criterion with detailed comments about their academic performance.
The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) offers a challenging and balanced curriculum designed for students aged 11 - 16.
What makes the MYP unique is its focus on developing the whole learner, intellectually, socially, emotionally, and ethically.
Learning is inquiry-based, encouraging students to explore ideas, think critically, and make connections across subjects and real-world issues.
The programme emphasizes global contexts, helping students understand their place in an interconnected world.
Through interdisciplinary learning, community service, and the Personal Project, students apply their knowledge in meaningful ways and grow as independent thinkers.
The MYP’s approach nurtures curiosity, creativity, and compassion, preparing students for success in the IB Diploma Programme and beyond. It empowers them to become lifelong learners who act with purpose and make a positive difference in their communities.
