Ms.Mary Kathryn Istre
Ms. Mary Istre (pronounced “East”) is from southern Missouri, in the Midwest of the United States. After graduating from Missouri State University with a Bachelor’s in Early Childhood Education, she came with her husband to Zhuhai in 2010 to teach English. She has also taught in Hefei, Anhui province. Mary and her husband returned to the States in 2013. She taught at a special needs school and later at an inner-city public school in Kansas City, Missouri. During this time, Mary had a lovely little girl named Naomi. Mary and her family returned to Zhuhai, which is like a second home, in 2016. She believes we should learn to be open to diversity, as we are global citizens with different backgrounds. We should also learn to work together toward the common goal of bettering our world. Outside of work, she enjoys the quiet of being with close friends and family.
Nursery Chinese Teacher
Jessie was born and grew up in Dongguan, Guangdong. She graduated from Beijing Normal University in Zhuhai of Preschool Education. Jessie began her career in education as a play instructor for 0-5 years old children. She loves kids and sticks to creat a multiple environment for kids to inquiry and learn with fun. Then Jessie joined ZIS as a Year One Chinese teacher and she really enjoyed to support every student to meet their potential and encouraged them to be a risk-taker. Jessie loves animals and enjoys reading, traveling and learning about baking.
Now she’s coming to Nursery and looking forward to spend her time with many younger kids.
Ms. Lorelei Brose
Lorelei Brose has been active in the field of teaching and education development in both grade schools and at college levels for most of her life. Her parents, both career educators who immigrated to the United States of America from Germany and the Philippines, provide her with a diverse education and knowledge of cultures and language. Family vacations were spent traveling throughout North America, Central and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and other destinations around the world.
Originally from Los Angeles, USA, for the past four years Lorelei has lived and taught at various locations in China including Shanghai, Xiamen and now Zhuhai. She is focusing primarily on early childhood development and second language learners studying English. For both native and non-native English teachers, she has conducted training programs and created creative teaching materials and curricula. Lorelei is currently pursuing a post graduate teaching degree and enjoys the gift of learning more each day from her lively classroom interactions with both staff and students.

Ms. Zanda Balode
Year 1 Classroom Teacher
Zanda was born and grew up in Latvia. After graduating High School she moved to Scotland, UK to study Media, Culture and Society. While at Scotland Zanda was lucky to work with bilingual students in several schools and Bilingual Speech and Language Therapy Clinic. For the last three years Zanda has been part of International School of Latvia faculty. She strongly supports inclusive education, since it is beneficial for every student. This year Zanda achieved Postgraduate Certificate in Inclusive Education, and is looking forward to continue her studies in August. In her free time Zanda enjoys taking photos, reading books, writing, yoga, traveling, hiking and painting. Zanda is a passionate educator and she is very excited to join Zhuhai International School community.
Ms. Tania Xiao
Year 1 Chinese Teacher
Tania was born in Zhongshan, Guangdong, China. She graduated from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies in English Education. Before coming to Zhuhai International School,Tania is an early childhood educator. Tania thinks that the early childhood education is to guide children to explore, respect the choice of the child, to protect their curiosity, develop their creativity. Tania is pleased to join the ZIS, joining the experienced teachers together to create a better learning environment for children.
Ms. Magdalena Wojtukiewicz
Year 2 Classroom Teacher
Magdalena Wojtukiewicz was born in Gdansk, Poland, but raised in Edmonton, Canada. She is married to Jordan Rose and together they have a beautiful daughter. Magda began her career in education as an ESL teacher in South Korea and Taiwan. She then travelled to Edith Cowan University in Perth, Australia, where she earned her Graduate Diploma of Education. Since then, Magda and Jordan have spent the past five years teaching Primary students at international schools in Honduras and United Arab Emirates respectively. As an experienced international educator, Magda strives to create a learning environment that is relevant to her students, intrinsically motivating, diverse, and of course, fun! Magda has a passion for teaching and is very excited to be joining the ZIS family. Magda, Jordan and their daughter are looking very forward to their new adventure in Southern China.
Ms. Eva Xu
Year 2 Chinese Teacher
Ms. Eva comes from Qinghai in northwest China. She graduated from Beijing Normal University in Zhuhai with a BBA Degree in Editing and a Dual Bachelor Degree in Applied Psychology and Science. Her childhood dream was to become a teacher. After graduation, she obtained the Chinese Teacher Qualification Certificate and a Certificate for teaching Chinese Language to international students. She has been teaching Chinese for five years, and is very lucky to join ZIS. She enjoys learning, sharing and growing with the children in her class.
Year 1 & Year 2 Chinese Teacher
Ms. Crystal was born and raised in Guangzhou, Guangdong. She is a native speaker of Mandarin and Cantonese. She earned her Bachelor Degree in Applied Psychology from Beijing Normal University, Zhuhai.
Before being a formal staff of Zhuhai International School, Ms. Crystal has been an intern teacher at Early Year, Year One and Learning Services for a full academic year.
She worked with Pediatricians, Psychiatrist, Pediatric Occupational Therapists, Speech-Language Therapists and other child development specialists for a long time, receiving professional training from them. Additionally, Ms. Crystal has been efficiently cooperating with them to provide learning support for students.
Ms. Crystal loves the philosophy and teaching methods of PYP and knows development characteristics of EY and PYP students well.
She is excited to be a member of the ZIS team and looks forward to sharing her knowledge and growing with ZIS teachers and students together.
Ms. Frances Southwell
Year 3 Classroom Teacher
Frances Southwell was born and raised on the Central Coast, New South Wales, Australia.
She has over 25 years of teaching experience. She graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor’s degree in Primary Education. Then she went to teach ESL in Taiwan for three years.
In Australia she taught as a homeroom teacher and progressed to specialist teaching, learning support, classroom management, art, special education, behavior management swimming and singing.
She also worked with her husband in many countries for a variety of schools. This includes Australia, Taiwan, Thailand, Cambodia and china.
She has taught different grade levels from early childhood to Grade 8 and ESL from Kindergarten through to adults.
She developed a music business and has been a singer and song writer and performed in a music duo with her husband for many years.
She believes everyone has the right to learn in a happy, safe, caring and stimulating atmosphere.
Ms. Annis Lin
Year 3 Chinese Teacher
Annis Lin was born and raised in Guangdong.She graduated from Beijing Normal University in Zhuhai.Before being a teacher in ZIS?Annis has been an intern in here more than one year.In order to create multiple teaching methods?she obtained Psychological Consultation teacher’s certification and Horticultural Therapist certification in addition.Annis has passion for teaching and is getting well with students.She hopes that every student can enjoy their interesting and knowledagable school life.
Ms. Danielle Cope
Year 4 Classroom Teacher
Danielle Cope was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. She graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor’s degree in Primary Education. After her graduation, she went on to supply teaching for the school board and then teaching adults. After a few years, she moved to Taipei, Taiwan and taught kindergarten. This is where she met her husband who is from South Africa and they moved to New Zealand. They were married there and lived for 2 years. Danielle was working at an Early Childhood Education center surrounded by beautiful nature. From there, Danielle has lived in 4 countries, including Taiwan, New Zealand, Korea and Vietnam. She has taught different grade levels from early childhood to grade 3. She believes that each child is a unique individual who needs a secure, caring, and stimulating atmosphere in which to grow and mature emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially. It is her desire as an educator to help students meet their fullest potential in all areas of education by providing an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas. She hopes to bring this philosophy to the classroom at ZIS. She lived in Vietnam for 4 years working at the American School teaching grade 3 and this is where her son was born. She is excited for her and her family to move to Zhuhai. She enjoys learning about new cultures and is looking forward to learning Chinese and exploring Zhuhai.
Ms. Olivia Wang
Year 4 Chinese Teacher
Olivia Wang was born and raised in Sichuan province.She completed her undergraduate programme in Beijing Normal University in Zhuhai in Education management.As a Chinese teacher,Olivia has got a high level certificate in Mandarin.She always wanted to be a teacher since she was in secondary.And after being an intern in ZIS,Olivia began to love this school and fortunately to stay to be a Chinese teacher.Outside of the classroom,Olivia has many hobbies such as music,movie appreciation,reading and language learning.She is also good at painting and history.Ms. Olivia has always got along with her children and wanted to grow up together with her students.
Mr. Daniel Spears
Year 5 Classroom Teacher
Daniel was born and raised in the US state of Alabama. His parents taught him to appreciate the place of his birth and the wider world. He was fortunate to be able to travel the United States, Mexico, and Europe in his youth. These experiences developed in him a love of travel and desire to learn about the cultures of the various places on this planet.
He graduated in 2007 from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor’s degree in English and Journalism. He began his teaching career in South Korea working with elementary and middle school students. It was there that he met his wife, Michelle. They have one daughter, Lily, and they are excited to have her join the ZIS family.
In addition to South Korea, Daniel has had the privilege to work at an IB Bilingual school in Kuwait as a PYP 4th grade teacher.
Daniel believes that all students possess the ability to succeed through various modes of learning. He looks forward to presenting his students with a variety of inquiries in which they can investigate together in order to discover value and meaning that they can take with them for the rest of their lives.
When not teaching, Daniel enjoys spending time with his family, reading, and riding his bicycle.
Ms. Nicole Nie
Year 5 Chinese Teacher
Nicole was born and raised in Sichuan province; she graduated from southwest university for nationalities Chinese language and literature major, bachelor’s degree in Chinese language and literature. As a Chinese language teacher she got senior teacher certificate and Level a Grade 2 Mandarin certificate after graduation, engaged in Chinese education for 5 years, including 3 years IB school teaching. She loves reading and Chinese painting, also start learning Guzheng. She came to zhuhai 4years age with and feels very lucky to join the ZIS. She enjoys teaching and playing with the students in different years.
Ms. Louise Moore
Year 6 Classroom Teacher
Louise was born and raised in Kilkenny, the home of hurling, Ireland. She graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor’s degree in English and Chinese. Her love of teaching grew when she was 16, after becoming a volunteer teacher at The Human Development Foundation in Bangkok, where she returns occasionally to lend a hand. In 2012, Louise and her partner moved to China and taught in Kindergartens in Yunnan, Guangxi and Guangdong Provinces. She completed her Professional Graduate Certificate in Education through Sunderland University in the UK, and is very excited about being a member of staff here at ZIS. She strives to make learning creative and fun for her students, within a stimulating and motivating environment. She is passionate about making learning accessible to all and creating an inclusive classroom that nurtures her students individual needs. Apart from teaching, Louise’s other passions include; bike riding, writing poetry and short stories and travelling to experience new cultures, food and languages. She enjoys most sports and hopes to bring some of her skills of Irish sports to the field here at ZIS.
Ms. Esther Lin
Year 6 Chinese Teacher & Chinese PYP Coordinator
Ms Lin was born in Guang Dong province. She finished her bachelor degree with a major in Chinese Language and Literature in Jia Ying University of Guang Dong, China. After she graduated from university, she taught Mandarin in Hua Qiao Middle School, Guang Dong, China. Following this she went to Indonesia and taught in Cita Hati International Baccalaureate School, Surabaya for two years. Ms Lin always tries her best to help students gain the highest level in Mandarin and also cares about the students’ personality and characters. The greatest joy she gets from teaching is sharing happiness and friendship with her students, while they grow together through the teaching and learning.

Mr. Paul Stuart
Paul Stuart was born in Brisbane, Queensland in Australia. He started learning to play piano at the age of six. He also performed in many choirs at school. He started learning guitar and bass guitar at the age of twelve. He was playing professionally at the age of fifteen and tutoring guitar at the age of seventeen. At the same time he was writing and recording music and playing in a number of bands playing a variety of genres. His favorite genres are still classic rock and blues.
He graduated from his teaching degree in Australia in 1990. He then spent three years in Taiwan teaching English at every level from kindergarten to university and beyond. He returned to Australia to work as a primary homeroom teacher and music specialist. He also started a music business with his wife and recorded and independently released three CDs. He has spent the last ten years travelling and working with his wife in Cambodia, Thailand, Taiwan and China.
Mr. Mike Lee
Lower Level PE Teacher
TMike Lee, was born and raised in Jilin province, He was a college basketball player. He has 11 years experience as a physical education teacher. He is the referee director of American Football League Of China. He is the chairman of Zhuhai rugby and American football association. He will be teaching PYP PE, coach our basketball team and organizes local sports event for our students.He will also organizes our Saturday morning sports.
Ms. Rachel Xie

Rachel Xie was born in Guangdong Province. She graduated from the Ling nan Normal University where she obtained the IPA certificate qualification in Chinese as a foreign language .In 2010,she spent six months in the United States and since then has been working with English speakers on a daily basis. She has more than 3 years experience in teaching Chinese to foreigners. She is a hardworking, responsible and a motivated worker. She is both diligent in her work and gregarious with her peers and friends. She likes many sports, Chinese dancing, Singing and Reading. She not only teaches Chinese knowledge, but also its culture and customs.She like to work in ZIS,so she is very happy to be a member of ZIS.
