Amanda was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and after working for a few years at a pharmaceutical company, she decided to switch to education to have a more intellectually challenging career. She holds a Master of Science in Education from Northwestern University. Amanda taught biology, physics, and high school engineering for seven years in Chicago Public Schools, and this is her first time living and working outside of the US. She enjoys swimming, cycling, running, and hiking to support her eating habit, as well as playing piano and guitar in her spare time. She hopes to equip and inspire her students at ZIS to problem-solve and build a high quality of life for themselves and others.
