Enrollment Policy

Zhuhai International School is open to all students who carry passports or legal residency from countries other than China. Students applying for positions at ZIS should hold appropriate visas that allow them to live and study in Zhuhai, China. Chinese Nationals are permitted to enroll in nursery, reception and Year 1 classes, and again in Years 10-13.

The language of instruction at ZIS is English. All students whose first language is not English are expected to commit to learning English as a means to participating fully in the programme of the school. ZIS offers EAL (English as an Additional Language) classes for those students who are not fluent in English.

Year Level Guidelines

Nursery – Reception: Students are accepted even if they have no English. The language of instruction is English with Chinese lessons and teaching throughout the programme.

Year 1 – 6: Where students have no English, additional support outside of school hours (such as private tutors or English classes) is advised in order to help students keep up with the requirements of the programme. Students are accepted on the basis of a commitment to learning English from the student. ZIS runs a comprehensive EAL programme offering withdrawal groups and leveled classes. These classes run in school.

Years 7- 11: Students may be asked to sit an English proficiency test before their enrollment is accepted.

Years 12-13: All students should be proficient in English before they are accepted into the IBDP programme.

Chinese Language

Chinese is the second language at ZIS. All students in years Nursery to Year 10 are taught Chinese as is appropriate to their year level. There is no level of proficiency requirement, however a commitment to and enthusiasm towards learning the language and culture of our host country is expected.
